Genevive Grant was a false personality created by the creature that had once been the TheLeftHand Left Hand, had simply become an It, and which wanted to rid itself of previous baggage and essentially start again. The hope was that the creature could finally understand what it meant to be human. To that end, it decided to disguise itself as a baby and create an entirely new personality that would grow and develop the way a real human would. It then created a car crash with a young couple and their baby, disposed of the baby's corpse, and put itself in the baby's place. When the baby was brought to the hospital upon discovery, it quickly became clear that something was not quite normal. Dr. Grant, who already had an interest in meta-human abilities, was on hand, and recognized that the baby was meta-human. His experiences told him that meta-humans would be persecuted, and possibly killed. To save the baby, he pretended that she had died, and brought her home to raise as his own daughter.

Genevive grew up in Dr. Grant's home. She knew she was adopted, but was raised with love and care. She had two siblings, both of whom were metahuman. Her brother Mike, who was also adopted, controlled music and sound. Her sister Lisa was a telekinetic and was Dr. Grant's biological daughter. All three children were raised to believe that TheAgency the Agency had been responsible for the death of Dr. Grant's wife and Lisa's twin, who was metahuman. Therefore, and somewhat ironically, they believed the Agency to be evil, malicious, and anti-metahuman. (In actual fact, Mrs. Grant and Lisa's twin were killed by the TheAllianceOfHumanity Alliance of Humanity, but Dr. Grant did not know this.) Genevive's own powers of plastic essentially made her a shapeshifter. Dr. Grant did the best he could to encourage her use of her powers and practice different methods of using them.

Genevive and her siblings were homeschooled by Dr. Grant. Genevive was particularly interested in biology, and the biological factors of being metahuman. She planned to go to college. Then Dr. Grant found information that led him to believe that there would be metahumans at Boston College. He felt that this would be the perfect opportunity to spy on TheAgency the Agency, since he assumed that the metahumans in question would be attacked or approached by the Agency. However, he also felt it was too dangerous to send his daughter into what he believed was imminent peril. It would be too easy for Genevive to be discovered and questioned or tortured. This would put not just Genevive, but the entire family in jeopardy. To this end, Genevive decided to create a separate personality, an entire layer of otherness that would keep her safe. Not only would she be unable to give away any incriminating details, the other personality would fully believe that she was human, adding a layer of safety from those who were searching for metahumans.

Genevive therefore created LilyBarnes Lily Barnes. She used some of the information from her own origins, and then fabricated the life she felt she would have lived had she not been adopted and not been metahuman. She had Lily grow up a foster child, and imbued her with Genevive's own love of biology and science. It took her months to create a perfect shell personality. Although it was difficult and time-consuming, it also seemed slightly easier than she'd expected it to be. Once she was finished, she pulled her own consciousness away, and Lily became completely autonomous. Genevive was able to watch and observe what was going on, but had no way to influence events unless she took over the body again.

This happened on a few occasions. Lily's roomates, AlexCabler Alex Cabler and LaraCooper Lara Cooper, were metahuman, and revealed their powers to her. They let their agents know this, and the agents put some effort into doing a background check on Lily. They found some inconsistencies, and panicked. When they called Alex and Lara to warn them that Lily was not who she said she was, Genevive panicked, and took over the body, fleeing and then spying. When the dust had settled, and Genevive had used Lily to convince the agents that she was honest, Genevive later spent the rest of the week taking control every time Lily was alone, so as to make calls and generally shore up the foundation of lies that Lily's past was built upon.

Later, when Lily accepted the chance to join the Agency, Genevive was thrilled. After years of working there, she still had not found any evidence of the Agency being evil. However, she was suspicious that there were several levels of the building that were off-limits. Curious as to what sorts of horrors might be going on in these levels, she determined to create a second personality, one that had access to these levels, so that if she were caught, the personality would fully believe she had the right to be there. It again took several months to create this personality. Finally, Genevive used it to infiltrate the Agency's lower levels. However, she wasn't very successful, since she was almost immediately overcome with faintness, and passed out, only to wake up as a plastic blob, and in the hostile custody of the Agency. Later, she would find out that part of the shucked off TheLeftHand Left Hand personality had found her and incapacitated her for it's own reasons.

Genevive was then rescued by her friends and her family. In the rescue process, she revealed herself and her motives to her very confused friends. They all then went on to try to keep ZaizenTamari Zaizen from being resurrected. While in ParadiseLost Paradise Lost, the other piece of the Left Hand once again appeared, and this time integrated herself with Genevive's body. There was a struggle for control, which was won - barely - by Genevive. This upset her very much, since she had not previously realized that she was sharing her body with anyone other than her subordinate personalities. Later, IT was able to take control for awhile, before Genevive managed to wrench it back. Just before Zaizen's resurrection The Left Hand took control. There was a battle for control of the body. In the end, all of the personalities were merged into one single entity, who called herself Eve.
