A stern man, Mr. Black liked to keep to himself and **rarely** spoke with the orphans in his care **when they were young**. **He does not seem to have a good way of speaking to children, and always speaks to the orphans as if they were adults. He usually seems sort of offput by the kids responding like kids and not adults.**
**He does well with Callahan in that the boy always had more of an adult outlook, and he also seems to have soft spot for Ollie once his dog takes to him.
He enjoys playing chess and plays with Shawn, Cole and Celeste once they show interest. He has an ivory set in his bedroom which he will bring out when requested.
He enjoys Ella's music quite a bit, and usually finds some excuse to sit on the porch when she is playing the piano.**
