====Part 4a of the [[FoundationoftheNine Foundation of the Nine]] - The Fight at the Gates====
**Date:** 11 November 659 CE
**Location:** [[TheScholarsGuild The Scholar's Guild]]
The front gate is open giving a view of the long stone slab with the door to the sewers standing open at the other end.
The stone slab is glowing with a deep blue energy, at just on this side of the main gates, this side being inside. There are four men in red robes with gold runes, chanting, their power moving out though the doorway and into the slab.
The four men are all older and Caucasian, three are not recognizable, one is [[SebastianNemo Nemo]].
In the center of the stone slab is a small knot of figures. At the center is a giant whirlwind of sand, that is focused on a wraith pushing it back away from the group.
Next to the whirlwind is a woman in a blue sari, with a long black blade in each hand, cutting down hollows as they rush towards the whirlwind. At the base of the whirlwind is a man in simple Arabian clothes, he looks focused on controlling the blazing wind. To the woman in blue's right is a young girl. She looks determined but like she is waiting for something, you can see the swirl of tattoos covering her body. Standing next to the girl is a man in blazing white clothes. What looks like a wraith shadow is growing out of his body, but instead of the black of the shadow, its a blazing glowing white being, his attention is focused on a wraith to the groups left. Flying above the group, is a girl surrounded in a halo of pure power. The manifestation is blatantly evident well before their arrival at the gate and the heat blazes though the whole of palace. The light from her halo illuminates the fight in the night. All around the tight little group are bodies. The slab is literally choked with hollows, with more coming up the stairs.
There are wraiths all throughout the hollows, in a single glance shows 26, but their may be more.
Standing over the door is the huge wraith from the sewers. He’s holding the gate by himself. Standing just inside the doors behind the alchemists is an old man in simple orange robes. He turns towards the arriving group and says. "They are trying to cut us off, if they take the door, we will have no escape. We must try to take the door, if we can." The man continues, "[[Raven]] can move the door," he says indicating the girl with the tattoos, “I don’t believe we can win, but we can remove the door, if she can get there."
[[VirgilBelmont Virgil]] nods and unsheathes his blade, he focuses his will on the naked blade and it blazes with fire. [[Omi Omi’s]] companion smiles at [[VirgilBelmont Virgil]], his disks buzzing though the air around him. "Neat trick, you ready?" [[VirgilBelmont Virgil]] nods and they charge into the sea of hollows.
[[Miyen Mi-yen]] bends down her staff and in one fluid motion produces a bowstring and strings the staff. In a leap she propels herself up the inner wall and stands at an arrow slit. Dipping her arrow into the torch there, it blazes with a intense flame, she strings it and lets fly. It strikes the Wraith guarding the door in the shoulder. He growls in pain and focuses his gaze on her.
A wraith pushes past the whirlwind and dives for the group outside. [[ZinRaishin Zin]] focuses his will and the wraith stops in his tracks, [[ZinRaishin Zin]] wavers but holds.
An explosion focused on [[Alaistar Rolo]]’s feet propels him into the air and up past the wraiths. He then falls, an explosion forming around him as he does, into the pack of hollows just in front of [[VirgilBelmont Virgil]] and [[RenjiYoritomo Omi’s companion]]. The hollows explode back in a crunch clearing the path. [[RenjiYoritomo Omi’s companion's]] disks flip around flat and he jumps on the disks riding over [[Alaistar Rolo’s]] crouched form, he lowers and hand and pulls [[VirgilBelmont Virgil]] up with him and they race towards the group.
A wave of Hollows tries to push towards the gate and the alchemists chanting grows louder, the runes glow blue and the hollows hit an invisible wall of power, holding them back. One slips though but [[AshamAshari Asham]] steps forward and decapitates it with a single swing of his machete.
The large wraith at the door grabs a hollow by the head, and with one smooth motion tosses the hollow at the arrow slit, its body smashes though the stone leaving a bloody stain but breaking the slit where [[Miyen Mi-yen]] had fired from.
[[RenjiYoritomo Omi’s companion]] slings [[VirgilBelmont Virgil]] at the Wraith at the door. He lands with a smooth turn and cuts down the hollows around him giving him a clear area to fight. The Wraith smiles an evil grin. "Finally a challenge!"
The whirlwind shifts direction and pushes a wraith back. The man in white signals to the girl and together they go running forward towards the door, the girl in blue trailing behind cutting down hollows as they try to move in and close on them. [[RenjiYoritomo Omi’s companion]] drops to the ground next to the girl in blue, he says something to her that is lost in the shouting and smiles as he moves to defend the gap they have created.
The wraith at the door turns and lifts his hand to attack [[VirgilBelmont Virgil]]. [[Miyen Mi-yen]] leaps to a new arrow slit and lets lose two shafts into the wraith's back. They sink in with a thunk and the wraith screams, his blow off target and he slams down on the stone slab with enough force to shake the ground.
The wraith spins to attack again. [[Alaistar Rolo]] steps over the pulped bodies that he landed on and swings his staff, as it connects with the hollow next to him there is a bone crunching explosion and the hollows body goes sailing out across the slab smacking into the wraith allowing [[VirgilBelmont Virgil]] to roll out of the way again. With a swing, he cuts the wraith with his sword blazing. The white robed man and the girl reach the door.
Suddenly from somewhere inside the castle comes the sound of a woman screaming. [[Hugh Mi-yen’s companion]] turns to head towards the scream along with [[AshamAshari Asham]]. [[Alaistar Rolo]] focuses his power in a huge blast and flies past both of them, a panicked look in his eyes.
As he [[Part4bFotN rushes off into castle]], the rest continue their battle on the platform.
The group at the door finishes their task and the girl shouts, "GO!". The woman with the halo swoops down, picking up the man in white and girl. The man generating the whirlwinds sweeps up the woman in the blue sari and they all start flying back towards the gate. [[VirgilBelmont Virgil]] and [[RenjiYoritomo Omi's companion]] take the rear guard as they all make their way back. The flaming arrows from [[Miyen Mi-yen]] continue to rain down as they all come crashing through the gates. The moment they get through the men in red robes give one last cry of effort and the gate comes slamming closed. The echo of its fall reverberates through the large entry way, the sound joined only by the panting breaths. Knowing the door will only hold for so long, they move deeper into the castle.
