Dear Celeste,
I was so excited to receive your letter, though it surely does look like it had a rough journey down here to me. Imagine the adventures it must have seen on its way! I am happy to hear that you haven't stopped helpin those animals you find in need. And I am just as pleased as can be that you'd think of me when naming a cat. Look out for the ones you name, though... they have a habit of sticking around. But maybe that's just what you're aiming for!
With so many of us gone now, the ol Kingdom of St James feels pretty lonely. Just me and Ella, Cal, Deco, Jefferson, and Val of course. There's more than enough work to keep us all busy, naturally, but the Blacks are seeing the writing on the wall, what with half of their charges moving out in the space of a month. So they're starting to think about taking on fewer guests. Of course Abner's still around, keeping Mr Black sane and all. I get to man the front desk now for 3 days a week, which is a nice change. Feels downright grown up, and much better than changing linens all the time.
The Manots are at the hotel now, stopped for their annual visit, and Ella just can't get enough of their stories of travelin the riverways and meetin all the people from the different cities. I wonder if that girl won't stow away one of these years!
Will you be starting your schooling in the fall, then? I hope your boarding house is nice. I have heard about them Yankee men, though, so you watch out that they treat you right when you start your classes. You ain't got nothin to be ashamed of, though they'll try to make you feel like you do. If you get any trouble I'll come right up there, I swear, and set 'em straight real fast. You just let me know.
