Letter from Ollie to Cole

Dear Cole,

Well, friend, you did get someone all right with your prank tales... and I'm only a bit ashamed to say it was me myself. If I didn't have to man the front room now I'd be surely marching my way up there to give you a piece of my mind about it. You oughta seen the way that the others were laughin at me for worrying about you so.

With so many of us gone now, the place feels pretty lonely. Just me and Ella, Cal, Deco, Jefferson, and Val of course. There's more than enough work to keep us all busy, naturally, but the Blacks are seeing the writing on the wall, what with half of their charges moving out in the space of a month. So they're starting to think about taking on fewer guests. Of course Abner's still around, keeping Mr Black sane and all. I get to man the front desk now for 3 days a week, which is a nice change. Feels downright grown up, and much better than changing linens all the time.

Best of luck with your Ms Franklin. I ain't able to give you much advice myself, never having found myself in that situation. Just be your old self. I'm sure she'll cotton on. I'm writing this on St Valentine's day, so perhaps that will bring you some luck.

I'm glad you and Shawn found each other, and that he is doing better. I can't lie; I thought we were going to lose him too, the way he was carrying on after Erin died. Her grave in the old graveyard is quiet and spare, but serene in a way. You should come back and visit her some time. She would like that.

Ollie
