Dear Ella,
I'm so very sorry to hear of the Belle. The news made it to Mr Black only just before your letter arrived. I'm thankin the stars that you and everyone else are safe. I sure hope the Manots and you can get back on your feet. Europe! My, that sounds awfully fancy. I bet they'd take a real fancy to you, though! Can't wait to hear what you do next!
I've had some interesting talks with Mr Song. He actually knew my uncle Tom, back in the war, and Mr Black too! And other... people. Folks we don't need to mention here, if you catch my meaning. He's got quite a story to hear, though I can't bear to write it down, lest someone get a hold of it who shouldn't. Mr Song has settled into his own place, now, but he's thinkin of openin up an oriental tea and herb shop near here. You should swing by and meet him some day - he'll talk your ear off with stories of the far east.
Val's moved out now, so it's even more quiet here. I had so hoped that you'd be coming by, and that I could see the show. I had to take down your show poster from the wall, cause it was just too sad to think about the Belle sinking, and you not comin after all. Maybe fate will bring you down home for Christmas. I'll be thinkin of you.
