Dear Everyone,
Classes have begun this week, and my head will barely stop spinning. It is strange to be in a classroom with so many strangers after spending so many years with all of you as my only classmates. It is invigorating in many ways as well, since everyone is here for a common purpose, and we all find such satisfaction in the acquisition of this new knowledge. It is a bit odd to be the only dark face in the classrooms, but so far no one has been anything other than polite, though quite a few of the wealthier girls were unable to hide their surprise at finding me a pupil. I am simply more determined to succeed than ever.
I cannot write a longer letter, as I have exceedingly large amounts of work to do in reading texts and studying, but I wanted to share with you all that I have finally embarked upon the journey of learning that I have been aching to begin for so many years. Perhaps if I had begun sooner we would not have met with such tragedy last year. I can only hope that in the future I will have every advantage that a solid education can bestow upon me.
