Darling Cole, I do not know whether to burn your letter for spite or break down and cry from missing you. As I wish to re-read your letter and have had enough of crying lately, I suppose I shall do neither, but instead simply scold you for vicious lies. There is a difference between pranks and toying with the emotions of those still engulfed in grief. I do not appreciate your feeble attempt at humor in this manner.

I am glad, however, that you are doing well in your training, and are well and happy enough to be joking about. It is good that Shawn appears to be finding some peace as a soldier.

If I was unamused by your "joke", I found your escapades with Miss Polly delightful. I think this may have been the first time I have laughed aloud in weeks, and it made me miss you ever so much. If the young lady has any sense she will head the other way when you arrive next time. Perhaps your dashing uniform (you do have a dashing uniform, do you not? I was under the impression it was a requirement for young soldiers when calling on the ladies) will turn her head. Please try not to lose your own. I realize this will be the first time you manage to keep it, but please at least try? For me?

Any answering letters will need to go to New Address, as I have completed my arrangements and will head to Philadelphia next week.
