(I deleted the original Girls Mixer Party page - I'm pretty sure I'd created the link, but I never went anywhere with it, and there was the sort of general idea that it was a bit early. Then I realized I didn't really need it that early either... if I was wrong about deleting it, please speak up!)

Mrs. Black arranges this party to "show off" the girls, and allow them to mix with potential suitors. They have a meeting - awkward for all - beforehand with Mrs. Black where she tries to give them tips and encouragement, and then they go help each other dress and get ready.

<#kate: 1. Based on Kel's input, I'm thinking Mrs. Black makes sure there's a "boy" there for each girl, including Valerie that perhaps are encouraged to dance with sit next to. #>
<#court: I suspect there is a lot of awkwardness this first time, especially if Mrs. Black "helpfully" pairs them off - and I could totally see her doing it, trying to help and expedite the process! Jeanne is mortified at being set up with someone. My gut is that there would be a lot of silence and the evening would be pretty stilted. Perhaps based on this feedback, they are not paired off so explicitly in the future? #>

<#kate: 2. I was also thinking it might be fun for Ella and maybe Celeste to have Ida May show up at the first go around, or maybe this meeting to show what a lady's supposed to be like.#>

<#kate: 3. I'm not sure how Ollie feels about things, but I have a feeling Shawn might be pretty grumpy and scoping out anyone coming into the vicinity of Erin.#>

<#kate: This got sent in an email but I just wanted to drop it here too: Regarding the first show-off the girl party, once the other boys (Cole and Ollie) get into playing the harmonica and hambone, Ella would grab either Jefferson or Shawn specifically to start the dancing. Jefferson to give him the opportunity to dance with the lovely Celeste and Shawn to allow Erin to mosey with her fella without big brooding brother around. I think this might just effect Celeste and Jefferson, but Ella desires a good time for all and will do what she can to effect such an end.#>

<#kate: I'd agree with Court though regarding the matchmaking being softer the next go around. I can see Mrs. Black getting the idea of making it more of a party rather than Noah's Ark. I bet she would still be selective in terms of who's invited, making sure there's someone she'd think is ideal for each, but also additional people, maybe sisters too, to make it more of a party vibe.#>
