She doesn't know many (any?) doctors in New Orleans, so she enlists the help of Cal, who seems to know everyone. It takes him awhile to find someone who's willing to humor this random white boy, but eventually she ends up at the door of Dr. Ambrose Trudeau. He is somewhat bemused by the teenager, and would probably turn her away, but his son Julien overhears the conversation and convinces his father than he can help Celeste a bit and it will bolster his own studies. Julien intends to attend medical school as well.
Over the next few years, Celeste spends quite a bit of time at the Trudeau place, and later out on calls. She becomes very friendly with Julien and eventually earns the respect of his father. She is sad when Julien goes to medical school the next year, but they write to one another frequently, with Julien sending her small assignments and tasks intended to get her ready for the coursework. (This in an era where a college degree was not required to attend med school.)
This is probably the doctor that Celeste runs to when Cole breaks his leg later.
