During the evening, Dean and Jeanne leave for a few minutes. When they return, Jeanne is holding camera, looking very excited, and spends the evening alternately taking pictures of willing subjects and talking quietly with Dean in corners of the room. During the evening, she briefly shows Celeste how the camera works, and asks Celeste to take a picture of her with Dean.

<#kate: During this party, two girls, Josephine Gatwood and Hyacinthe Windsor come up to the piano and start talking with Ella. They are cousins and Josephine is the sister of Beryl Gatwood a shy young man who spends most of the party nodding in other people's conversations and, especially when the dancing starts, twirling a derby in his hands. They are nieces and nephew to Mrs. Charles Gatwood who stayed at the hotel last summer. The girls appear to be talking "sweetly" to Ella who keeps her focus on the piano for the most part. The two girls notice the boys hovering outside and end up venturing over to them while the party goes on.#>
