Jeanne and Valerie are kidnapped while the two of them, along with Ollie and Jefferson, are out in the bayou hunting some frogs. RaphaelArkadeus Raphael Arkadeus and his white alligator ambush them and catch Jeanne and Val with nooses around their legs. Ollie tries to fight them but is no match for the gator, and Arkadeus makes off with the girls.

Ollie and Jefferson run back to the orphanage, and gather a posse of kids, including Cole, Cal, Shawn, Ella, Celeste, and Jackson the dog. Ollie successfully gets Jackson to track Jeanne, and he leads the kids to a pool where they find Val and Jeanne hung upside down, unconscious, from a tree limb. The gator sits below them, guarding them, but Arkadeus is nowhere to be found.

The kids fight the gator for a short time, but it seems likely that one of them will get hurt. Ollie, who has been hanging back, suddenly goes head-to-head with the gator, seemingly pretending to be a gator himself. The two face off, circling each other and hissing, but not fighting. Finally the white gator gives up and heads off, and the kids are able to get Jeanne and Val home safely.

CHAT

The kids get the girls down and start hustling back towards the orphanage. (It’s about a 40 min walk, which should get you back just in time for dinner but you kinda have to move.) Cal and Shawn are helping Valarie to walk, she is a little bit shaky on her feet. (My assumption is that Ollie is helping Jeanne)

<#court: (I was under the impression that we were out until after dinner; is that not true?)#>

It’s growing dark right now. You can still make it back in time but I don’t know if you will

<#jonah: Aye, and maybe Cole helps Ollie too?

(I was going to assume but I dont want to speak for Bill)

<#bill: Um, why don't we flag someone down like they did to get out there?)#>

(I think the kids walked out there...unless I’m wrong?)

<#bill: (but, yes, Cole helps support Jeanne.)#>

<#kate: (Ella's watching for badness to show up out of the swamp / town on their way back, still with the stick/club)#>

<#jonah: I think we walked out there this time, yes. well, ran out there, to be precise
#>

sure.

The swamp is quiet at the moment...*

<#court: If Jeanne is conscious enough to be aware of what's going on, she is going to insist of having the conversation NOW. If she is groggy enough that she still does not really know what's going on, she can wait until back at the orphanage.#>

<#bill:We did to rescue them....#>

She has come around.

<#bill: But didn't you guys bum rides to get out there?#>

<#court: (sorry, by "out" before, I meant unconscious)#>

<#kate: (I'll second the running)#>

By the time they untie the ropes, Jeanne is pretty much all there, but woozy.

<#ann: Celeste is also keeping a wary eye on the surroundings.#>

<#jonah: @bill - not this time.#>

Your not super super deep in the bayou. (FYI).#>

<#bill:Regardless, Cole suggests they bum a ride.#>

<#ann: She's trying to walk and check out the woods and assess Val and Celeste for wounds and grogginess all at the same time. #>

<#kate: (Ella looks like she wants to hit something).#>

<#bill:we've got two groggy girls and we don't know where the bad guy is. ride = faster exit.#>
#>

@Celeste - They are a bit bruised and cut up by the ropes but seem otherwise fine.

<#ann: "How many fingers am I holding up? Oops, I tripped, that doesn't count."#>

<#bill:"Ollie, don't you guys catch rides out here. I think we should catch one back."#>

Your in the middle of the wilderness Bill there is not anyone around to ride with atm.

<#bill: At the soonest point.#>

(okay)
<#bill:I didn't think anyone was driving thought the bog.#>

<#jonah: Ollie: "We could walk to the road and then along it - if we catch a ride, great."#>

<#bill: You said it's 40 minutes I didn't think it was 40 minutes of mud.#>

correct, sorry jumping ahead, Jonah has the right of it, rp good. butting out.

<#jonah: (+cole?) is helping Jeanne along.#>

Shawn says, "We better get moving or we will miss dinner."

Cal nods. "Thinking with your stomach, you sound like Jefferson....but I agree, no reason to lazy about, while he’s out there."

<#kate: "We can't just run and let him be."#>

Cal helps Valarie to her feet and prepares to start moving.

Valarie says, "I thought I was the one with the death wish."

<#jonah: Ollie: "We're bringing them (the girls) back to the orphanage." (as firmly as a 8 year old can) "Then we can think about what to do next. It's not like he'll be hard to find."#>

<#ann: "We can run and survive, or we can try to fight him with sticks. I'll take going home and getting a plan together."#>

<#kate: She seems disgruntled at running but moves with them as they start to leave.#>

<#court: Jeanne does not look particularly lucid at the moment, but it is unclear how much is the lingering drugs and how much is fear. She is clearly terrified.#>

<#jonah: Ollie is speaking totally lucidly, but his eyes have the glazed-over look of someone who's deeply spaced out.#>

<#ann: "How do you feel? Are you nauseas? Does your head hurt?" @Jeanne and Valerie.#>

Shawn growls and looks like he generally agrees with Ella, but helps Cal with Valarie.

Valarie says, "Like death." in her usual monotone.

<#court: Jeanne just shakes her head at Celeste, not responding clearly. "He's going to kill us," she says.#>
.
<#kate: "No he's not."#>

Cal says, "No ones dying today."#>

<#court:"He is."#>

<#kate: "He might."#>
onah.petri@gmail.comOllie says "Screw him. Let's get to the road, and get on home."

<#ann: Celeste shakes her head. "Not today, with half of us out of it."#>

Cal starts leading the way back towards the road.

<#kate: (Ella seems more angry than she's going to go slaughter someone. She's clearly pissed, perhaps seeming a bit more than usual).#>

<#ann: "Don't worry, we'll get him back. But you attack from a position of strength." She starts doing her best to get people moving.#>

Cal, Shawn and Valarie are already moving...

<#jonah: Ollie tilts his head to the side: "I... I think there's a wagon coming. Soon. Let's hurry and catch it."#>

<#kate: Ella is going along with them (eyes on the sides)#>
<#jonah: (Ollie starts walking faster, hauling his older sister as much as he can.)#>

(Cole are you helping Jeanne?) ‘cus if not Shawn would be...#>

<#court: Jeanne, to be clear, is trying to move; she's just not very effective on her own.#>

<#bill: yes.#>

right, trying to determine Cole.

<#bill:i said that earlier.#>

<#ann: Celeste tries to hear the wagon.#>

Cool. Celeste cannot hear anything but swamp noises. The kids slowly make their way through the swamp heading for the road.

<#court: Lo and behold, as they approach the road, a wagon comes into sight, in the distance!#>

(hold a sec court, that does happen, but it’s a bit of a walk first)

Cal says, "Any idea what the Crazy Bastard wanted you for?"

<#court:"He is going to kill my family," says Jeanne, in a monotone.#>

<#jonah: Ollie: "Soup, or so he said."#>

<#kate: "Why?"#>

<#jonah: @kate: to whom?#>

<#court: Jeanne looks at Ollie in horror.#>

<#jonah: Ollie still has that spaced out look, and doesn't appear to see Jeanne.#>

<#kate: (to no one in particular but it seems directed at Jeanne/Ollie based on context)#>

<#court: Jeanne takes a few beats to answer; she is not processing very fast. But then she shakes her head. "I don't know."#>

<#jonah: Ollie: "The last time we saw him, he said somethin' about us not bein ripe yet. I guess you ripened up, Jeanne." Ollie: "But why Val? Val, you ever seen that guy before?"#>

<#court:"No, not yet, he said..."#>

Val shakes her head, and shrugs, "Does it matter much?"

<#ann: "If it explains why he kidnapped you, then, yes!"#>

<#court: Jeanne seems to realize something. "Val, what happened? He said he had two... so you were the other one. What happened?"#>

<#ann: "Start from the beginning. What happened first? You were out getting frogs, right"

Valarie nods to Celeste as they arrive at the road. (and lo there is a cart approaching). The kids pile into the back with some barrels. Cal clambers up to the top of the barrels to talk with the driver.

<#kate: Ella sits on the back, legs dangling over the edge, watching the swamp/road.#>

<#jonah: Ollie begins to tell the story. Ollie: "Yeah, we out gettin' frogs, an then all of a sudden I see this big white croc. I think, "Hey, that look like ARkadeus's croc," and then I hear Jeanne tanglin' with somethin', and then I hear ARkadeus. He's there, and he's got Jeanne and Val noosed by the legs in some sorta rope trap, and he knocks 'em out with some powdery magic stuff. I tried to get to Jeanne before he gets away with her, but that gator got in the way, and I had to climb a tree to keep from gettin' eaten myself." (Jonah has a mental block and keeps calling it a croc. sorry for the confusion.) Then he got away, and took both them girls with him. Said he was gonna make soup from 'em. (Ollie is talking loudly enough for everyone to hear, but not for the driver to understand). Ollie: "And then he and the gator left, and that's when I come runnin back to the orphanage to get you all."#>

"Strange way to make soup." Shawn says. "No accounting for crazy." Valarie says.

<#ann: "soup....So have you seen him before Val?"

Val shakes her head.

<#kate: "What's he look like anyway?"#>

<#ann: Is Ollie stilly glassy eyed?#>

<#jonah: good question - you note that since he's been telling the story, he's been less so.#>

<#ann: "Big creepy black guy. Creepy." she repeats.#>

<#jonah: Ollie: "He always look clean, nice suit, fancy hat. And he just come and go somehow, like nobody notices him before he's there."#>

<#ann: "I wonder how he trained that gator, I didn't think were like dogs like that."#>

Valarie, "Like death." and shivers a bit though it’s a warm afternoon.

<#jonah: Ollie: "That gator..." he pauses.#>

<#jonah: Ollie: "I think he's... part man somehow. Like he understands us when we talk, and like he and Arkadeus know what each other's thinkin."#>

<#court:… Jeanne reaches out a hand to Val in solidarity after Val's last comment.#>

Val gives her a look of acknowledgement but keeps her arms folded.

<#bill: Cole is just quiet. He's taking it all in and has his "plotting" face on.#>

Cal says, "So how'd you talk to that 'gator Ollie?"

<#ann: "He hypnotized it!" Celeste says enthusiastically to Jeanne.#>

<#jonah: Ollie breathes out a long breath, and thinks about what to say.#>

<#court: Jeanne looks at Ollie, concerned.#>

<#jonah: Ollie: "I guess it just seemed to me like it had those two parts, like I said. There was the part that was like a man, like it wanted to guard Jeanne and Val. And the other part, the gator part, didn't like all the commotion. I guess I could tell from how it was actin, like the way it was movin', and the sounds it was makin.'#>

The cart bumps along...

<#jonah: "So I thought that maybe I could act like another gator, like a real big one, and real angry too, and maybe I could get the attention of the gator part, and get it to leave. So I did... and I don't know how, but it worked. Seems stupid when I say it, but somehow I thought I could understand what it was goin' through. I...I feel sorry for the gator part of that thing... it's not happy. Like it don't wanna be Arkadeus's pet no more."#>

<#kate: "Like the Mud Pony," Ella whispers as if to herself.#>

<#jonah: Ollie says, "Mud Pony? Ain't never heard of such a thing... where'd you see one of them?"

<#kate: She glances at him a sec before realizing what he's asking. "No, it's a story I heard once, about this boy who could talk to this pony he'd made from mud 'cause he couldn't catch one of his own. He was the only one who could."#>

<#ann: "The only one who could talk to it? Was it really a pony?" She sounds skeptical.#>

<#kate: "Dunno," she shrugs and returns to perusing the road. "They rode around together, into hunts and everything. Sounded pretty real to me."#>

<#ann: "You saw it yourself?"#>

<#kate: She shakes her head. "Like I said, it was a story I'd heard once."#>

Shawn says, "Do you think he will come after you...or us?" Everyone can hear the unspoken...or Erin in his voice.

<#kate: "Better not." Ella thumbs her club stick in her hand.#>

Shawn shoots Ella a smile.

<#jonah: Ollie: "Well I think he got his sights on Jeanne for some reason, and maybe me too. So you're probably safe for now."#>

<#ann: "What makes you ripe? He didn't bother us that time years ago because he said we weren't ripe."#>

<#court: Jeanne is panicked again. "But Ollie, he doesn't even have to come after us! We didn't get that close to him the first time!"#>

<#jonah: Ollie @Celeste: "Maybe we just older. I dunno." Ollie @Jeanne, "I know. But if that were true then we'd be gone already. And cause we're not gone, it mean that he can't get us so easy. And I know how to scare off his gator now. He ain't so scary without it."#>

<#court: Jeanne turns to Celeste... "Says I am still not ripe anyway. So it's not that."#>

<#bill:"If he has his sights on you, how come he didn't get you? Sounds like he let you and Jefferson run off."#>

<#jonah: @Cole: "Maybe he only had two traps. He didn't seem to be expectin' me. Like he didn't know I was there."#>

<#ann: "Where were you the first time? Maybe he can only get you in the bayou."

<#court:"He was out on the water with our father, the first time; he was not there." Jeanne puts a protective arm around Ollie as she says that.#>

<#ann: (he was not there?)#>

<#court:(Ollie was on the water, Ollie was not there)(sorry -- Ann, Court thought you were asking Ollie where he was the first time)#>

Cal says, "What I heard is that he can’t come into the city, something about it keeps him back but the Bayou is his territory. Step out of line and he snatches you up. That’s why Nora keeps threatening to put you in a sack and leave you for him."#>

<#jonah: (Kel, I thought you said earlier that he has a shop in New Orleans...)#>

No, the other voodoo person does. The real one and the less threatening one. Arkadeus has a house on the bayou. If I said something different before go with this now.

<#jonah: ok - and NEVER comes into town. I will correct the page to that unless you say otherwise

(Cal is not correct, but Cal thinks he is correct so I’m not sure what to say...)

<#jonah: There's OOG info on the wiki that disagrees with what Cal says.#>

correct.

<#jonah: ok wait.#>

<#ann: "So if we stay out of the bayou, we'll be safe. Or... (she glances at Jeanne, knowing how much she loves the bayou) if we do go in, we ALL go together."

<#jonah: OK court set me straight - i'm good now.#>

"Or at least with the gator whisperer here" Cal says thumbing at Ollie.

<#court: Jeanne looks conflicted.#>

<#kate: Ella nods as if Cal's last statement makes absolute sense.#>

Cal, like Ella, has a problem fixed face on. "So you think you can do that trick with any animal?" Cal says indicating Jackson's sleeping form.#>

<#kate: Ella splits her attention between the road and Ollie to see what Ollie does.#>

<#jonah: Ollie says, "I don't think so. I only think it worked cause part of the gator wanted to go. I just gave it enough reason to."#>

Cal says, "Too bad, would be fun to make this ol' hound a little nicer." Cal leans back into the barrels.

<#kate: Ella returns to watching the road behind them.#>

<#jonah: Ollie: "Jackson? Ain't nothing wrong with him!" Ollie scratches behind the dog's ears.#>

The dog wags his tail and seems content.

Cal shrugs. "So say you and the old man."
