After church, those who attend the circus see acrobats; aerial silks; clowns; elephants; equestrian acts; exotic animal menageries including tigers and bears; fire eaters and breathers; fortune tellers; gymnastic dancers; hooping; jugglers; knife throwing; lion tamers; living human curiosities; magic shows; musical bands; plate spinners; stilt walkers; strongmen; sword swallowing; tightrope walkers; trapeze artists; unicyclists.
Some sneak in while others do a few errands for someone in the circus to pay their fare.
<#bill: Again, Cole and Celeste don't pay to get in. This year Cole seems to split his time between trying to hang out with the magician and and the knife throwers. When the circus leaves town he seems to have picked up/refined a magic trick or two. He also spends time tossing the hatchet into a block of wood. #>
<#ann: Celeste watches him with the hatchet for awhile, and then a few days later shows up with her whittling knife and asks him to show her how to throw that. Perhaps their rock-throwing time is now thrown weapons time? #>
<#bill: Cole is all about it. It is sort of like the blind leading the blind, however. He has some doubts about the knife though because one thing he was able to glean from the circus folk is that the blade has to be balanced. He's not sure he totally understands what that means but, to him, the hatchet his pretty balanced because although the wedge end is a bit heavier, it's not a lot heavier than the other end (i'm picturing a hatchet with a small wedge and a kind of thick/heavy wooden handle for story purposes). Her knife, however, is much heavier on the handle end than on the blade. He shrugs, however, and says lets try regardless. At some point, he tells her he knows Mr. French knows how to throw the hatchet well...and he's considered asking him...but he doesn't want to because he's such a jerk.#>
<#ann: Yes, I think the knife is terribly unbalanced and they never manage to be accurate with it. But I think Celeset at least tries for quite a while. Every once in awhile the knife sticks in, and it happens often enough that she's convinced she's finally learning. She does not want to ask Mr. French for help in anything, though if you ask him, she'll happily pick your brain for what he has to say. #>
<#court: At the circus, Jeanne joins Cole and Celeste for a while in the magic area (if that's okay), and is happy to act as a "prop" for either of them as they practice. #>
<#court: Jeanne also goes back to the fortune teller's booth. She practices for a while and the woman who seems to have taken Jeanne as a mentee lets Jeanne sit next to her at the booth and tell a couple of fortunes, with coaching. #>
<#ann: Celeste is curious about what the woman says Jeanne's fortune is. She'd like to get her fortune told too, but only if it's free. #>
<#court: Kelly, was wondering if there was anything you wanted to tell in the fortune that might be linked to future plot point? #>
<#kate: Just putting the needs in case anyone wants to add something to this specific circus.#>
