After church, those who attend the circus see acrobats; aerial silks; clowns; elephants; equestrian acts; exotic animal menageries including tigers and bears; fire eaters and breathers; fortune tellers; gymnastic dancers; hooping; jugglers; knife throwing; lion tamers; living human curiosities; magic shows; musical bands; plate spinners; stilt walkers; strongmen; sword swallowing; tightrope walkers; trapeze artists; unicyclists.
Some sneak in while others do a few errands for someone in the circus to pay their fare.
<#jonah: About halfway through the show, Ollie bursts into tears, for no apparent reason. #>
<#court: Jeanne asks him what the matter is, and if he wants to leave. #>
<#kate: Ella watches the interaction to see how it transpires. #>
<#jonah: Ollie sobs quietly for a minute or two, hugging Jeanne, but doesn't seem to want to leave. Eventually the act changes to some clowning acrobats, and he seems happily distracted by their antics. He is somewhat subdued for the rest of the show. #>
<#ann: Did it seem related to the act we were watching? What was that act? Or does changing to the clowns help only because they are clowns, not because the act changed? #>
<#ann: After the show Celeste sneaks around to examine the magic show equipment. She's not good at sneaking though, so she's caught. The magicians aren't particularly angry, especially when she shows them some tricks she's learned from Cole and seems obviously curious. She has a good time talking to them for a few minutes, but they're busy so not for too long. #><#kate: Ella watches the interaction to see how it transpires. #>

<#jonah: Ollie's outburst happened during an act which included unicyclists, several elephants, and two monkeys on bicycles. It wasn't obvious exactly what had upset him, however. He looked fairly distant during the time he was crying, and didn't seem to be particularly watching the performance. #>
<#bill: Ann, do you mind if Cole sneaks with you? He'd want to if he knew you were going?
Either while Celeste is looking at magic stuff, or after if Cole goes with her, Cole suggests to Ollie that they try to see some of the animals up close.... #><#jonah: I think while you're sneaking around with Celeste, Ollie heads out. #>
<#bill: Jonah, I should have been clearer. If it makes a difference, Cole would say something to Ollie beforehe goes off with Celeste. Something like, "Celeste and I are going to get a closer at the magicians and stuff. Want to go take a look at the animals when I get back?" #>
<#jonah: Ollie thanks him, but says he's going to head back to the orphanage. #>
<#ann: No problem. Actually, I think she'd invite you, since she knows you enjoy magic too. When Cole and Celeste get back from visiting the magicians, they are in possession of prizes from the carney games and looking gleeful. #>
