<#bill: Cole looks intrigued (but in no way offended), but doesn't say anything on this night. The next time she smokes in the tower, he asks if he can try. He does and does the stereotypical coughing/hacking and stops. Oddly, he seems to need a refresher ever now and again...months will go buy and he'll ask to try again - have one puff, cough, and be done with it. He also tries every time there's something new to smoke...so he also tries the pipes and the result is must the same. If the ever start doing tricks, like blowing smoke rings, it's much more likely he becomes a regular smoker because he'd want to learn to blow smoke rings/do those tricks. #>
Cal likes smoking, he acquires a pipe at some point and is often smoking it in the evenings.
This habit of Cals seems to really put Erin out. She pouts and gives him looks whenever he does it. Cal for his part seems oblivious and smokes to relax, usually up in the tower.
Erin doesnt like smoking, she doesn't like the smell.
Shawn knows this but falls for the peer pressure, he never smokes around Erin but will smoke up in the tower.
Jefferson doesn't smoke, it makes him sneeze.
Valarie doesnt seem to care about the smoke but does not partake herself.
Minnie really doesn't like it, and will go so far as to destroy cigarettes she finds. Anyone who smokes must hide them from Minnie.
Deco does not smoke at the orphanage. (He does pick it up later)
<#kate: Ella doesn't get her hands on cigarettes often but when she does she typically smokes after a particularly hard experience, seeming to put her focus on the routine of smoking and blowing and concentrating on her exhalations. If people are interested, she always shares, either the only one she has or an individual one if she has them. #>
<#ann: Since this seems to be moving less from one experience to a generalized practice, Celeste tries a cigarette once, just to see what it is like, but is clear that it's only curiousity that is driving her, not a real desire to smoke. She generally disapproves of women smoking, but once she makes that opinion clear, she doesn't harp on it or try to prevent Ella from smoking in any way, she just ignores it. #>
