Sunday, November 25th, 1866

It's only the fifth night since Ollie arrived, and he's only just started to find himself at the orphanage. He's still prone to some amount of crying at the loss of his family, but it's only from time to time. Most of the day he's happy, and the physical nature of his work seems to suit him.

The night times are a different story, however. From the first night, everyone who doesn't sleep like the dead probably wakes up occasionally with the sound of tossing and turning, and occasionally some whimpering from the direction of Ollie's bed. It isn't enough to keep anyone but the lightest of sleepers awake; it's probably somewhere on the spectrum from annoying to off-putting for the rest.

The night of the 25th it gets worse. In the dead of night, Ollie's normal whimpering escalates suddenly into a panicked cry, and it sounds as if there is a fight to the death happening in Ollie's bed, and then he screams in anguish.

Jefferson sleeps like the dead (often snoring) and does not respond.

<#ann: Celeste jumps out of bed, frightened, and looks towards Jeanne to see how she's responding to her brother. #>
<#bill: Cole is not a great sleeper himself, so he probably notices...but he's probably wait to see first what Jeanne does....does she wake up on the first few nights? Do anything about it? #>

Deco comes awake quickly, also crying and scared.

Shawn sits up and watches, after a quick glance to Erin.

Erin wakes up and sits up slightly.

Minnie wakes up and goes over to comfort Deco.

Cal rolls his pillow more heavily onto his ears.

<#court: Jeanne leaps out of bed in a panic and flies to Ollie's side. She takes him by both shoulders and repeats his name, "Ollie... Ollie..." waiting for him to respond and sounding scared. #>

Ollie continues his scream for a few moments, and then snaps out it. His hands are white-knuckled from clawing the sheets, but he slowly begins to relax, and his breathing slows to normal. "Jeanne?" he says, recognition coming to his face. (In french) "What happened?"

Minnie manages to calm Deco down.

<#court: Jeanne heaves a sigh of relief and puts on a calm demeanor. She responds (in french), "You had a nightmare, oui? What was it?" #>

<#jonah: (In French) "I... I don't remember. I think something was biting me. I'm sorry that I woke you up." Ollie looks sorrowfully at his sister. #>

He also notes that the whole floor is awake, save for Jefferson and looking at him.

<#court: Jeanne brushes off his apology. "Silly, it's fine. And there is nothing biting you. They may have made us take down the cross outside (as I assume this is probably true), but look here." She reaches under her mattress and shows him a flat rock where she has sketched the same white cross-shape. "We are safe. Sleep well." She gives him a hug. #>

<#ann: Celeste is not interfering now that the crisis is averted, but she is watching intently. She is going to question Jeanne about it in the morning when Ollie is not standing right there. <#jonah: (See additional section below.) #>

<#bill: Cole sits up on bed at the sound of Ollie's initial cry. He looks around and sees that Celeste is up and out of bed. He then looks from her toward Jeanne and sees her rush over. As Jeanne and Ollie talk he gets out of bed and picks up his own glass of water which he keeps near by his bed. He walks over just as Jeanne and Ollie pull back from their hug. Holding the glass out to Jeanne he says slowly, in Spanish, "Sometimes a drink of water helps me get back to sleep." #>
<#court: Jeanne nods and smiles at him, a little distractedly, then looks to Ollie and repeats in French, "Water?" #><#jonah: Ollie takes the water, glancing gratefully at Cole, "Merci." He takes a couple good swigs, and then lies back down to go back to sleep. #>

Minnie asks Celeste, "Should we go tell Ms. Lizzie?"

<#bill: Cole nods back at them, "Merci." Then turns and climbs back into bed. #>

Unless someone else jumps in - this is over.

Celeste talks with Jeanne - NeedsAnn
<#court: Jeanne does not have a lot of information to impart, but tries to communicate that it was a bad dream and Ollie seems ultimately fine. #>
<#ann: Celeste wants to know why taking down the cross would give him nightmares. Does Jesus keep them safe? #>
<#court: "Mmmm... no. Jesus? No. La croix..." she gestures to the rock with the markings. "Not pour Jesus. Pour... umm... stoop?" She looks like she is searching for the right English word. "Stoop les lutines." #>
