<#ann: I would imagine that most of the day is spent at church and doing holy things? Do the children receive small presents, like an orange or a stick of candy? That seems pretty typical based on the Little House books, Little Women, etc.
Celeste has made some presents for most of the children. Callahan: A pile of smooth round stones for skipping on the river. Valerie: A strange-looking rock that has a stripe going all the way around it. Deco: Celeste has been saving the ends of her pencils when they get short enough for her to make the excuse that she can't use them. She gives these to Deco to draw with. Minnie: Seeds from various plants she has seen growing around town (I feel like she gets out more often than Minnie does on errands.) She has no idea which seed goes to which plant, but Minnie accepts them graciously. Erin: Some tea that she and Minnie mixed up together to help Erin's cough. Shawn: Also gets skipping rocks. Cole: a cloth ball she's made by sewing scraps of rags together. Jeanne: A somewhat clumsily sewn frog made from scraps of rags. Ollie: An apple she stole from the kitchen supplies.#>
<#court: Ann, I love this idea. Jeanne is thrilled with the frog, and carries it around with her all day, ultimately putting it in her bag when the day is over, which is (you know) where she keeps her most precious things). Does anyone think they exchanged any gifts in 1866, or is Celeste forging this as a first-time thing? If it's the latter, Jeanne looks very happy, but a little abashed. She thanks Celeste profusely, and later leaves a flower from the garden on her bed. #>
