She holds out hope until bedtime, at which point she crawls under her covers and, finally, starts to sob. It is the first time she has really cried since arriving at St. James. She does her best to keep quiet, but the space is crowded and the other kids can hear. She sobs herself to sleep. In the morning, she gets up, red-eyed, and continues on as she has been, making no mention of the night before. If she is a bit more subdued than the previous days, it could easily be chalked up to tiredness.
