Renji and you near the guild and he comes in for a smooth landing. As he reaches the final approach, the big metal doors open up slightly and Ban appears out of the crack.

<#kate: She tests the steadiness of her legs then starts for the doors. #>

He lands and lets you go, you step out onto the slab. Ban meets you halfway, and fall in line behind you. "They are waiting for you in Lab 4."

<#kate: She nods curtly and continues trying to keep it together and goes to 4. #>

As you walk through the halls you see Alaistar approaching.

<#kate: She nods and keeps walking #>

Alaistar nods and falls in line behind you.



<#jonah: I think Fio really needs sleep. #>



<#jonah: He crashes hard on whatever horizontal surface is available, presumably in the barracks where he slept last time. #>



<#court: Elana is also asleep. #>

<#ann: Devi is reading. And pacing because reading gets boring after awhile. But then she goes back to reading. #>

Mi-yen, you arrive at Lab 4 to find the threshold active, and some carefully drawn chalk runes around the floor. In the center of the room is half of the stone slab you used to bring the shard of the dark star to the guild.

Nemo is there with a big smile on his face. “HELLO!” he shouts. “WE JUST NEED FIO TO ARRIVE THEN WE CAN RELIEVE YOU OF YOUR BURDEN.”

Ban and Renji enter into the lab.

<#kate: She comes up to the edge of the threshold and gives him a small smile and nod of acknowledgement. #>



<#bill: Alaistar moves to the far side of the threshold to make room for those entering. #>

You hear footsteps from down the hallway and Fio, Devi, Virgil and Santiago arrive. Mi-yen is very very tired looking, and her hands are black, oozing with sores as she holds the ball of shards. They look black and frostbitten.

Virgil shoots Mi-yen a smile and a look of concern as he enters.

Santiago moves over to Nemo as they enter.

Ban nods to Alaistar and turns to leave.



<#kate: She returns Virgil's smile with a weary grin and then faces the threshold once more.#>

<#bill: Alaistar nods to Ban and turns back to Mi-yen.#>

NEMO SAYS, "AH FIO GOOD GOOD, WE WILL NEED SOME BLOODSTEEL APPLIED TO THIS SPOT HERE." he indicates a small divot in the stone surrounded by runes.

<#jonah: Fio looks confused, and says to Nemo, "Hey, why can't I move tze blood in tzere? I can feel it, but I can't move it?" Fio turns to Radley-Yen and says, "Hey babe, welcome back. Trying to take tzat stuff off your hands." #>

<#kate: "I know, thanks," she says to Fio. (her voice is kind of hoarse and whispery #>

NEMO SAYS, 'THE SHARDS DE STORY EVERYTHING THEY COME IN CONTACT WITH, INCLUDING SPARK AND SHADOW. I AM AMAZED YOU CAN SENSE ANYTHING THERE AT ALL. WE SHOULD RELIEVE MI-YEN OF IT POST HASTE, IF YOU COULD APPLY SOME BLOODSTEEL HERE. He again indicates the stone slab

<#jonah: Fio: "Ok tzen, you tze boss. Where you want tze stuff?" He walks over to the divot, and blobs out some bloodsteel.#>

Nemo says, EXCELLENT! NOW MI-YEN IF YOU WOULD PLACE THE SHARDS ATOP THE BLOODSTEEL AT THE COUNT OF 3 AND THEN LEAVE A DROP OF BLOOD. He turns to Santiago, "READY" The Saint nods back and moves to the other side of the threshold from Nemo. “ON 3.” He says, 1...”

<#kate: She enters the threshold and goes up to where Fio put the bloodsteel prepared to drop.#>

Santiago closes his eyes and (Alaistar at least) can feel a buildup of power from his direction.

Elana appears at the doorway to the lab.

<#kate: She places the icky ball on the bloodsteel spot and attempts to let go.#>

She lets it go, and you can see her hands sort of peel off the object, you all can see holes in her hands that start to close as she bleeds a little on the slab. She touches the rock for a moment, and then pulls her hands away from the ball.

<#kate: She lowers her palms out of view...#>

The bloodsteel begins to burn and sizzle, and then the chalk runes begin to glow slightly blue, the stone itself glows for a moment as well. then the bloodsteel stops sizzling and the ball stops, floating with just its bottom tip touching the bloodsteel.

“THERE, THAT SHOULD DO IT.” Nemo says with some satisfaction in his voice.

<#jonah: Fio looks a little sick. #>

<#kate: She gives Fio an empathetic glance #>

<#ann: Devi is hovering just outside the doorframe, watching, but unwilling to actually enter the same room as the shards #>

<#court: Elana moves into the room and offers Radley the pillow she is holding. #>

<#bill: Alaistar moves to find something for Mi-yen to sit and places it behind her so she may sit. #>

he finds a box from one of the other labs

<#kate: Mi-yen exhales, still staring at icky ball, and after thanking Elana, uses the pillow Elana offers and sits on the box provided by Alaistar. #>

Virgil comes to stand behind Mi-yen and Renji, "Its good to see you both back, no trouble on the flight?"

<#kate: She turns to him and shakes her head, "No." #>

<#jonah: Fio seems ok now. “So, Nemo, what's tzis tzing you built? #>

Virgil hands Mi-yen a small package, "I figured you might need this."

NEMO SAYS, "ITS A RESONANCE RESTORATION LOOP, FAIRLY SIMPLE REALLY, ITS MOSTLY HELD TOGETHER BY THE POWER OF YOUR BLOOD. IN LAYMAN'S TERMS IT TAKES YOUR BLOOD AND INFUSES IT WITH THE RESONANCE OF THE OBJECT. ITS MADE MUCH MORE COMPLEX BY THE FACT THAT THE RESONANCE OF THE STONE IS GONE, HOWEVER THE RESIDUE OF BLOOD ON THE SHARDS FROM THE LIFESPARK IS ABLE TO REACTIVATE THE RESONANCE IN THE LONG DEPLETED OBJECT.

<#kate: Mi-yen takes the package delicately and lays it on her lap. #>



<#kate: She nods her thanks to Virgil and closes the paper package.#>

<#jonah: Fio: Oh. Well, good, tzen. #>

<#kate: She turns to Nemo, "Is that everything?" #>

I BELIEVE SO, I DO NOT KNOW HOW PERMANENT THIS SOLUTION WILL BE BUT IT SHOULD REMAIN FOR SEVERAL MONTHS. BY THEN I HOPE WE HAVE A MORE DEFINITIVE SOLUTION.

<#kate: She nods, rises, puts the package under her elbow and asks Virgil, "The other bag?"#>

Virgil says, "I can go get it." He smiles, and turns to leave.

<#kate: She moves to go with him.#>

<#bill: "Wait! There is trouble out front," he says moving toward the door. #>

Nemo goes rigid, like he is listening to something.

<#kate: She takes a really deep breath, puts the package aside, and looks to Virgil #>

<#bill: "Virgil and Fio and Elana with me. Renji - take the rest to the roof,” and now he's running.#>

Virgil is off after Alaistar, he says, "Your gear is in my old room"

<#kate: She's heads after Virgil #>

<#court: Elana glances around the room to note reactions, and then heads towards the door.#>

Virgil and Alaistar and Elana are off after Bill.

<#ann: I shadow onto Renji's shoulder. #>

<#kate: Mi-yen is with Virgil (as stated earlier #>

<#jonah: Fio runs after Alaistar #>

<#court: Elana continues to hurry past the door, with Virgil and Fio and Alaistar #>

Renji heads off a slightly different route with Santiago and Nemo.



Mi-yen is following Virgil and Al (FYI) as she said.



You run into Chen in the hall. He is fully wraithed out, full combat mode in a dead sprint toward the doors.



Rooftop people arrive first.



<#court: As we are running, Elana calls to Alaistar, "What kind of trouble?" or if Alaistar is too far away, asks Chen #>

<#bill: "Wraiths"#>

At the end of the stone slab which is awash in blue glowing runes is the doorway to the sewers. At the threshold of the doorway, just one on the slab is a shadow puppet. The shadow puppet is dressed in an American marine medics uniform, its floating on its wraith bits about 5 feet in the air and has its hands up in a gesture of surrender. Its wraith head is formed up above that with a creepy smile on its face.

Renji immediately summons disks when he arrives and hunkers down. Santiago draws his weapon and Nemo begins meditating.

Now the downstairs people arrive. To find Ban and Serena at the doors. The doors are closed.

<#court: Elana, btw, dropped the pillowcase she was carrying in the lab when she ran for the door.#>

<#bill: Alaistar turns to Elana. "Please hold the doorway. But do not go outside. The slab is activated."#>

You hear Renji's disks humming at a fever pitch.

<#court: "Okay."#>

<#bill: He turns to the group at large. "It's the Horse Clan."#>

Virgil draws steel. His blade begins to glow with a white flame as he pulls it free of his sheath.

<#jonah: Fio: "What does tzat mean? Who is tzat?" #>

<#kate: She unsheaths her katana and faces the doors #>

The wraith speaks to no one in particular, "I've come to negotiate..."

<#bill: "No time to explain now Fio. Chen - Miyen, If you two will come with me. Virgil - you organize a defense here should it be necessary."#>



Everyone can hear the wraith



Virgil nods in response to discussion, and Chen falls into line behind Alaistar's left shoulder

<#jonah: Fio: "Virgil, just so I know, how tze fuck do I fight a horse wraith?" #>

Meanwhile Ban lifts his hands gathering his power, and looks to Alaistar.



<#bill: Alaistar looks at Mi-yen and gives her a nod like, "you okay to come?" #>

<#kate: She shoots him a glare which he can interpret as No, I'd rather be sleeping or someplace warm like a tropical beach doing nothing for a long fucking time, but I got your back. #>

<bill: He smiles, turns and nods at Ban. #>

Ban gestures and the doors open. Virgil says quietly to Fio, "Hope that we don’t have to, otherwise, coldsteel, fire, moonlight, shards, running water, they ignore just about everything else, and don’t let them touch your blood."

<#bill: Alaistar strides through the entrance. #>



<#bill: He crosses the slab to about halfway across. #>



Chen follows on Alaistar's left shoulder.

<#kate: She's on the right. #>

Horse says, "Ah its been a long time Chen, Alaistar, Spark. I am sad my doors were destroyed though, I hope they will be able to be repaired."

<#bill: "Wraiths are not the only threats in the world. Why do you darken our doorstep today?" #>

<#jonah: Fio grumbles to nobody in particular, "Well, tzat's a big fucking list of shit I don’t have. I'm just glad I haven't pissed yet today, at least I can get 'em witz tzat." #>

"Oh I fully agree. Thus why I have appeared before you."

<#bill: Alaistar nods for him to continue.#>

"I wish to surrender, in exchange for amnesty, I wish to live though the storm that is coming"

<#bill: "Then you will believe we will win? Why not fight with us? Sing a new song...."#>

"Oh I don't think you will win. I think that mutually assured destruction is coming, I wish to return to the home I built and survive it."



<#bill: "What makes you think the fight will not come to the guild?"#>

"It will, but I will share my information and power with you so that this place might survive it. I have, what do you beings call it, a 'soft spot' for this place. I wish nothing beyond my own survival. Then how can you ever be trusted? I find it’s easier to trust someone whose motivations are clear."

<#jonah: Fio wishes that he'd drunk more of the water Elana brought before. #>

<#bill: Alaistar shakes his head. "Insufficient. You can renounce your ways... share your knowledge, consume no souls, and after the storm has passed we may have something to discuss." #>

"And what do I get in return? No promise of amnesty? I feel my request is...more than fair. I have done you no harm. I merely wish a guarantee of my well being."

<#court: Elana whispers to Virgil & Fio (and Ban & Serena if they're listening): "Though if he mingles with us, the others will know about us as well, correct?" #>

Virgil says, "Anything he knows he could tell the others yes."

<#court: "In a hive-mind, the sharing would not be involuntary?" #>

Horse’s head smiles and cocks to the side, "You know you have us all wrong, we do kill you, but we do not feed on your spark, that returns to the maelstrom. We just keep the flesh alive."

Virgil says, "They can act independently, and shield themselves from each other, they often fight and squabble amongst themselves."

<#court: Elana nods in thanks #>

<#bill: "I can only guarantee the actions of me and mine - but I may be willing to guarantee we will not seek to harm you if you demonstrate your trust worthiness. Harm no one...share your knowledge...fight for us, or at least, abstain from the fight....do those things...and continue to harm no one EVER again, and I will guarantee peace between us." #>

"I do not find your terms untenable, however, there are details which must be made clear before any accord can be reached. Define no one? If I share knowledge with you and then that knowledge leads to harm, is that my fault? What of bugs? and plants, should I accidentally destroy one? Ever is a long time, what if you ask me to end your life because of injury or frailty?"

<#bill: Alaistar looks vaguely bored as he rants...but doesn't stop him. #>

"I propose simpler to understand terms. The nine will not harm me and will allow me to remain safely in the guild, and come and go as I please. They will protect me against other wraiths as well as they are able, their own safety coming first and foremost. I will take no action that will knowingly aid the other wraiths, and will share what information I know in exchange."

He smiles too wide for any human. "Deal?"

<#bill: "The intentional killing of human or metahumans or any sentient creature is non-negotiable."#>

"I will not slay any of the sentient creatures unless they, or the nine ask me to." He smiles. “Acceptable?"

Senena growls, "I do not like this."

<#court: Elana looks vaguely alarmed. Elana asks Serena, "Do you suppose shadow puppets are techincally 'slain'?" #>

Serena says, "Its problems like that that make me not like this."

Virgil nods, "But we may gain tactical advantage knowing what it knows."

<#court: Elana nods. #>

<#bill: "Are you willing to fight the others?" #>

Ban says, "The dark ones do not deal."

Horse says, "I have been clear in my purpose, I wish to remain in existence, directly fighting, anyone, is counter to that purpose and I will not do it."

Virgil says, "Horse is the learner, he’s not a fighter..."

Ban says, "He can kill us just the same."

<#bill: "Why not disappear? Wait for the storm to end and then simply take the guild when we have perished?" #>

"You underestimate the magnitude of what is coming. It however remains a fall back plan should negotiations fail. The short of it. I miss my home."

<#jonah: Fio, to E,V,B & S: "What does he mean? What's coming?" #>

<#bill: "Stop speaking in vagaries. Make a show of good faith. Share your knowledge. What is this storm? When will be arrive? Where did the abilities you used in Australia come from?" #>

"I don't know." Virgil says, "He could be referring to the comet, but...I am unsure."

<#bill: "As modern humans are fond of saying. 'put your money where you mouth is." #>

<#court: Elana shakes her head at Fio, shrugging and looking concerned #>

"I can understand your position, you have no reason to trust me. So I will share the tip of the iceberg with you. Think to yourself, before Australia, did we ever animate the flesh of someone with gifts?" He smiles that dead eyed too wide smile, "What about after...."

<#bill: "Is it something we can prevent?" #>

"Oh dear, you wish me to, put my money where my mouth is, and I believe i have, I am not however going to "give you the farm" before I have my accord."

<#bill: "But you've only told me what we already know. If you can't tell us how to prevent it, then you can't help us." #>

Both the body and the wraith's head mouth move when it talks its very disconcerting. "Sigh, such arrogance remains. I can tell you what I know, I have agreed to it, but beyond that. Well I will not undermine my position to negotiate. You have my offer, what say you?"

<#court: Elana pats the empty air. #>

<#jonah: Fio, to the folks at the door: "Turn him down." #>

<#bill: "I have a proposal for you. All the terms you have requested...with the following amendment: Until the remaining clans have been killed or banished from this world forever - you reside else where. Once they are dead or banished and you have kept your word - you can make the guild your home once more." #>

He sighs, "No." His face grows dark, "I am only talking to you because I want my home. It appears we have no deal. You will live to regret this day." His shadowy bits begin to flow into the sewer door.

<#bill: Alaistar shakes his head. "The negotiation need not be over...The storm has not arrived. Perhaps one or both of us will change our position with time...Can we agree on a truce until that time?" #>

The shadowy bits continue to flow into the door, "I will act in my own best interest, if that means removing the spark from your flesh, than so be it. I hope that your essence remains intact though, I would have a fascinating conversation with what remains of your sanity when that spot on your soul consumes you." With that he flows the rest of the way into the doorway and pulls it shut.

The slab begins to stop glowing.

Virgil sheaths his blade.

<#kate: she sheathes her sword and goes inside. #>

<#bill: Alaistar turns - nods at Chen and Miyen - and walks to the doors. #>

<#kate: She goes to lab 4 and gets the bag Virgil gave her #>

Mi-yen moves though the gate and heads deeper into the guild.

Virgil says, "We should discuss our next move"

<#court: Elana, while listening to others talk, looks out an arrow slit at the slab. #>

Renji Nemo and Santiago get up and look like they are heading back to join the others.

<#bill: I already nodded and walked back #>

Your back inside. Ban closes the doors behind you.

<#bill: He nods at Virgil...and walks past him towards the kitchen. #>

<#jonah: Fio tries to head to where Nemo will be coming down from the roof to meet him. #>

Virgil follows after Alaistar.

<#ann: I follow everyone else back inside. #>

Okay, you run into Fio in the stairwell.

Elana are you following or staying with Ban and Serena?

Nemo Santiago, and Renji keep walking, Nemo responds (as Nemo is talking Renji veers off from the main group

Elena, Virgil and Alaistar arrive in the kitchen.

IT MAY BE, I FEAR THAT YOU LIKE ME HAVE A BUSY MIND, THE TECHNIQUE INVOLVES MAKING YOUR MIND QUIET, AT PEACE....

Bill you are in the kitchen with Elana and Virgil and Chen.

Virgil says, "Well at least we know the identity of our other escapee."

<#bill: Alaistar goes and sits on the counter top. He nods. He's clearly thinking. #>

Virgil says, "At a minimum yes."



KITCHEN CONVERSATION

Nemo and Santiago and Fio arrive in the kitchen.

<#bill: Alaistar looks past them, "The others coming?" #>

Santiago says, "Renji took off somewhere."

<#court: Elana: "Ban and Serena were still at the doors." #>

”SO FIO, IF YOU COULD SIT HERE. Nemo indicates a bench sort of oblivious to the rest of the conversation.

<#jonah: Fio sits.#>

<#bill: Alaistar nods. "Well, it seems if he keeps to his word, Horse should be sticking his head in the sand for a bit....unless I angered him."#>

Chen says, "He will not remain inactive."

<#court: Elana: "He seemed angry..."#>

<#bill: "But he will take measures to protect himself. I don't believe the means attacking us. I don't trust him exactly, but I eblieve his goal is to survive. I believe he's right about the storm coming....we've known that for a long time."#>

Virgil says, "Do you think he meant the comet?

Chen says, "It would seem premature to be worried about that now."

<#bill: "Wraiths have always played the long game. And he seemed clear that the Storm was, at least, us and the Clans." #>

<#court: Elana: "My impression was that he was talking about something -- or somethings -- with more intent than that." #>

<#jonah: Fio: "Tzat fucker wasn't nearly scared enough to be honest witz you. Wait for him to come crawling back, then mebbie, mebbie not." #>

<#bill: Alaistar shakes his head at Elana. "It's not just the arrival of the comet...but the metaphysical power that comes with it. It could be the catalyst for a total breakout of the wraiths." #>

"Si, he did not appear to be that concerned, even after his offer was rejected." Santiago adds.

"Why would he care about a breakout?" Virgil says.

<#bill: "He seemed concerned about the other wraiths. He sought protection...." #>

<#jonah: Fio: "Whats tzis about a comet anyhow? Sometzink special, I take it?"#>

Virgil says, "I assumed it wanted protection from the other clans as they would be angry that it was aiding us.

Meanwhile Nemo says to Fio, "THE COMET IS A PERIODIC EVENT THAT APPEARS IN THE SKY FOR A FULL YEAR EVERY (LIST EXACT YEARS BUT KELLY FORGETS, LIKE 400 YEARS OR SOMETHING) IT INCREASES THE AMOUNT OF AVAILABLE METAPHYSICAL ENERGY BY AN ORDER OR MAGNITUDE)

<#jonah: Fio nods, "So tzat means tzat all metas become more powerful? Or just wraiths? Or do you need to do sometzing special to capture tze extra energy?" #>

EVERYONE, WRAITHS, RUNECRAFT, METAHUMAN POWERS, EVERYTHING GETS EASIER, IT SORT OF GREASES THE METAPHYSICAL WHEELS.

<#jonah: Fio: "And who knows tzat tzis will happen? Is it a secret?" #>

Chen says, "Anyone old enough to remember the last one."

<#jonah: Actually, Fio keeps trying to get Nemo to teach him to meditate #>
