The St. James Orphanage is owned and operated by VincentBlack Vincent and RoseBlack Rose Black. Mr. and Mrs. Black also own and operate the St. James Hotel. Ms. Black, a devout Christian, keeps the orphanage to save the souls of the unfortunate children of New Orleans. The Orphanage is a two story building with a bell tower located behind the St. James Hotel and adjoining a cemetery and garden. The Orphanage is attached to the Hotel via a small dirty alley. Some time prior to the Blacks' ownership, the Orphanage and Hotel were part of a large church complex. The only part of the church that remains, however, is the bell tower.
The Orphanage was home to from seven to twelve children at any given time. The children all slept in the same room, on the second floor of the orphanage. The children's room had a single window, which overlooked the cemetery, but which could also be used to access the tower.
