Physical description: It has an inscription in ancient Greek that reads "Time and distance flies. Use this to catch it." To those with a keen sense of smell, it smells like the Mediterranean. There is an intertwined snake design on the medallion.
History:
- The Medallion was among the artifacts auctioned off at the SothebysIncident.
- When the GordianKnot was loosened in the presence of the medallion in active use, the snake came to life, began to unwind, and engulfed a fifty-foot radius area, propelling it through space.
Usage:
The Medallion is capable of distorting time and space. In normal use, the medallion is controlled using pins located at the four cardinal directions. These pins are almost impossible for someone without mega-perception to locate, but are relatively easy for even non-meta's to find once the location has been pointed out to them. When all four pins are pulled out slightly, the disk in the center of the medallion whirs around to form a sphere. A viewing panel appears. By manipulating the pins in and out, the user can move the viewpoint on this panel. When the user stops moving the pins, there is a slight pause, then a portal opens up to the location shown in the viewing panel.
Experiments with the medallion have resulted in the following information:
- There is a manifestation when opening the portal.
- There is a spike in the manifestation when you walk through.
- There is a super manifestation on the return, which has a weird temporal feel to it.
- The person on the target side cannot see the portal opening.
- The person on the target side of the portal can feel the manifestation before someone walks through the portal. It is a super-manifestation and feels like it is rolling towards the target.
- Someone who is standing between A and B feels the manifestation as it passes from A to B.
- On the return trip (B to A), the manifestation does not roll. It appears at A and B at the same time.
- Devi can use the portal to create shadows/portals on the other side that are technically out of sight, but they're shaky, and probably unreliable.
- Walking through with the phone, it does not realign immediately, but keeps the real time (like the clockwork watch) for a few minutes. The phones are not damaged by being passed through the portal.
- When two people go through the portal, at A the manifestation is the same. On the return trip, the manifestation is twice as large. When Devi-shadow is the second person, the manifestation is larger than with just one person, but not nearly as large as when it is two physical people.
- If the distance between A and B is twice as far, the manifestation is twice as big.
- The longer you stay, the larger the manifestation.
- When Elana goes to B at 0:00 and comes back at 2:00 B-time (returning to A at 0:01 A-time), she cannot return to B until 2:01 A-time.
- When Elana goes to be at 0:00 and comes back at 6:00 B-time (returning to A at 0:01 A-time), and then tries to run (with the medallion) to B (a five minute run) so that theoretically she would get to B before 6:00 A-time, the distance stretches so that no matter how fast she runs, she cannot arrive to see herself.
- The same experiment, but passing the medallion to Alistair before beginning to run, results in the medallion manifesting hugely, a mile or more, and burns Alistair's hand. Elana still does not meet herself.
- If a portal is opened and a rock is thrown through to Fio at point B, the portal does not close. However, Fio can't see the portal, and can't through the rock back.
- If the portal is opened, pushing the pins back turns it off again.
- If Elana opens a portal at A, and then tries to through the medallion through the portal, it doesn't work. The second it stops touching skin, it immediately shuts everything off.
- Experiments show that nothing appears until it is entirely through the portal.
