A tribe of aboriginal Australians who come to the aid of [[TheNine The Nine] during the AustralianIncident Australian Incident and then subsequently ally themselves with TheNine The Nine for the remainder of their time in Australia.
Major Events
1671 CE - TheNine The Nine are freeing a camp from Hollows when suddenly things go wrong. The wraiths had set a trap, the village having 13 rat clan shadow puppets in hiding among the villagers. Overwhelmed they try to fall back to the ocean, only to find their path blocked by the Ox clan wraith. They are pressed to the center of the village and things look dark when a out of nowhere a tribe of aborigines appears and re-enforces their numbers.
They break though the line of Rat clan and take some casualties doing so but they signal for the 9 to follow, a desperate chase ensues with the Ox clan wraith right on their heels as they flee through the night, driving deeper into the interior than they have come before.
The aborigines, at great risk to themselves, are focusing on eliminating the Hollows, letting the wraiths continue to chase. Picking up on the pattern Virgil, Raven, Alistair, and Renji assist. They come at last to a roaring river, the aborigines jump in to the rapids fearlessly, signaling that the 9 should follow. Then 9 do - with Devi doing all she can to shield the simulacrum body that Chen has. They cross the river leaving the wraiths in the dust and with no Hollows to send across the water, no way to pursue.
Finally able to rest the TheNine The Nine are suspicious at first but finding no trace of wraiths or hollows in the people they accept them and talk with them. Using Tomo as the primary contact with Nemo as a translator, the leader of the tribe of natives explains that he and his people are called “The Dreamers” in their native tongue. They are a small tribe that can trace there roots back to a time before the wraiths came to this land.
They live deep in the desert, in hiding, avoiding and fighting the wraiths. The place they call home is a small island formed by two swiftly flowing rivers, that is deeper into the interior than TheNine The Nine have gone before. They are small, only about 50 people but they all are trained and seasoned at killing Hollows. They would have found TheNine The Nine sooner, but they only learned of their presence recently as the coast became less and less infested with Hollows.
They are introduced to TheNine The Nine, and are respectful of all of them. The language barrier prevents much discussion but there is much smiling, nodding and bowing as the two groups get to know each other. The Dreamers are mistrustful of Chen as their tribal leaders can smell the taint of the wraiths on him. Even when his history is explained they avoid him and are obviously uncomfortable in his presence, and keep him locked up in rune circles the whole time he is with them, never inviting him in, and never letting him see or speak to anyone. Chen, deals with the exile in silence. Devi, most likely because of Chen never really warms to The Dreamers.
Regardless Tomo and Renji win them over and they become friends with the other 7. They explain that long ago their “stronghold” was their holy site, that they made pilgrimages to. Only luck that they were there when the wraiths took the continent has kept them safe for all this time.
