Revision [6968]

This is an old revision of Threshold made by KellyToyama on 2009-06-13 17:26:55.

Hold on.
So you are in a field and you want to make a threshold.
1:25 PM You have to draw a perfect circle with something, and invest a point of willpower into it to make a threshold. The drawing of a perfect circle takes skill and concentration, for many learning to do that is the first step in the road to learning runes.
Doing so creates a weak threshold.
1:26 PM Now, there are naturally occuring thresholds, and they come in two types
1:28 PM 1) being completely surrouned by water.
2) being enclosed in a house where people live.
Those can varry in strenght based on the natural surroundings.
1:29 PM A river flowing in a perfect circle around a druid grove is going to be wayy stronger than say standing in a toilet bowl, but both will work. (modern toliets make for about the ideal temp threshold.)
1:30 PM On the same note, a house where people have lived for generations is going to work wayyy better than a new apartment.
With all thresholds, the threshold works for anyone when it is set up.
1:31 PM If you are invited into the threshold by the creator of the threshold, then you can pass though it without any issue.
Without the invite, you are subject to the threshold as normal.
Public places, welcome mats, etc, are dangerous as they act as an open invetation for natural thresholds.
Okay that being said.
1:32 PM Artifical thresholds, (draw circle, created by will) have some additional things about them.
If the circle breaks or is disrupted the threshold will disappear.
So they are really good at say, keeping a wraith at bay, but a human can just walk up and scuff your line in the sand and then the whole threshold and anything else on it are gone.
1:33 PM It is possible to alter the properties of these created thresholds with specific runes. But it is difficult, doing that can change the nature of the threshold, doing things like cutting metahumans off from their powers.
1:34 PM Simple strength of threshold does not require runes, (though many runcrafters will add rune drawings for mental focus), the more will power you focus when creating a threshold the stronger it is.
(In practical terms, the more willpowewr you burn, the stronger it is)
Thresholds that are not maintained (people stop living there or a willpwer created one) will slowly lose strenght until they vanish.
1:35 PM You can add willpower to an existing threshold that you own or have been invited to.
I think that covers everything.
