Yi was born in 1556 in north of Lhasa in a mountain village above the Kyichu/Lhasa river plain in Tibet. He was the third of six children with two older and younger sisters and one younger brother. One evening in April 1562 there was a mudslide that trapped his family under a pile of stone in their mountain home. His older sister was claustrophobic and the other members of his family were also fearful for their lives. Yi, in an attempt to save his family calls for the first time upon his metahuman abilities over stone and sand and pushing the avalanche off of their home and frees them. He is unaware at that his great effort to save his family actually blocked the Lhasa River further down the mountain. Upon clearing their home and farm land they discover the dam but are not concerned. Later on, in September of 1562, with additional snow pack melting, this dam is breached causing a huge flood down river, killing thousands. Feeling the initial use of massive power and hearing of the devastation from the flood, VirgilBelmont Virgil Belmont and some of the other members of the TheOrderoftheIronThorn Order of the Iron Thorn go to investigate with VirgilBelmont Virgil's idea that this would be a good opportunity to test their abilities. They assist the flood victims and investigate the source of the flood since it seemed to be connected with where the initial power surge occurred. They trace the source to Yi and his family. Yi’s family is shocked that their son’s rescue and the dam it created resulted in this huge flood. Their loss of face causes them to be angry at Yi but Virgil intercedes, making them understand that it was not his fault. They try to agree but are still worried that others might trace this destruction back to their family and oldest son. Yi’s parents ask VirgilBelmont Virgil to take their son with him, to keep him safe and educate him. VirgilBelmont Virgil agrees and he leaves with the 6 year old Yi and the rest of the TheOrderoftheIronThorn Order of the Iron Thorn. After a period of fear and shyness, Yi warms up to Virgil during the trek back to the Guild and starts to learn quickly all that he can learn from him. When they arrive at the TheScholarsGuild Scholar’s Guild, there is a stern conversation between the Nine about the circumstances and need to bring in this outsider. They ask Yi if he is willing to stay with them, and not return to his family. Yi agrees to remain and is initiated into the Order of the Thorn. From there he learns various fighting techniques but is also taught to control his powers by other members of the TheNine Nine. He grows into a man of medium height but thick build. He has a confident air about him but is dedicated to the Order and to Virgil, seeing him almost as a father figure. In turn he is looked upon by other members of the TheOrderoftheIronThorn Order , especially younger ones as a source of strength and stability, one that is willing to teach and assist as best he can. He believes the TheOrderoftheIronThorn Order should be a source of good in the world yet is still thoughtful of his actions, trying to see their consequences before proceeding to ensure that others are not harmed by the effects. When news comes of the situation in Australia, Yi joins the contingent going to face it. He ends up having a son with an Aboriginal woman but perishes during the conflict. His grandson, Yu survives the final battle, bringing his grandfathers dedication to TheOrderoftheIronThorn Order back with him upon his return to the TheScholarsGuild Scholar's Guild.
