The Shard is a piece of HeWhoDoesNotSleep He Who Does Not Sleep's prison. It was broken off during the TheBattleofQaxchikdax along with other pieces. This shard was used by Isux in his battle against Maka in 1343 BCE and dealt the fatal blow, killing Maka and removing HeWhoDoesNotSleep He Who Does Not Sleep's link to this realm. The Shard was then taken by Isux back to his people as proof of his victory against Maka. In 1270 BCE, Augustus pays a visit to Isux in his quest to locate all metahumans on earth and hears of the legend of Maka as well as of the Shard.

Later on some dudes from Africa show up cause they're being harrassed by these Wraith dudes. The eskimos are like - cool man we got this covered. Just take this pointy thing and stick it in the guy and like poof he's outie.
