After being rescued by Augustus, along with his sister GwenKnight Gwen, after teir village was destroyed by TheRightHand The Right Hand they grow up on Crete where they meet other metahumans such as OmranMohammed Omran Mohammed and assist Augustus in his exploration of the world in search of other metahumans. Bastien's abilities with language lead him to study runes and after seeing runes emanate from HaydenKazi Hayden Kazi, his nephew at the time of the young mans death he is able to combine his knowledge and author a RunicCodeBook book instructing about the usage of the runic language. He also learns about the properties of Cold Steel ink from a pen that was given to HaydenKazi Hayden by his father RafikKazi Rafik Kazi when he came to Crete to study under Bastien's tutelage. Additionally his studies of Cold Steel lead him to an understanding of how to lock powers into the substance with the use of runes. During this time he takes his nephew, HaydenKazi Hayden and niece AylinKazi Aylin Kazi into his home and teaches them. He also falls in love with their bodyguard, Anila and the two soon marry and have two children, JaidenKnight Jaiden and VarenKnight Varen. The former he keeps with him and during their travels between Crete and India, he instructs JaidenKnight Jaiden about the rune language while he allows VarenKnight Varen to live at the Kazi stronghold and be educated by his sister GwenKnight Gwen and her husband RafikKazi Rafik. During these travels he also learns of a Cold Steel Compass that had initially been given to HaydenKazi Hayden but fell to his sister AylinKazi Aylin at the time of his death. AylinKazi Aylin is able to repair the compass and shares her discovery and the abilities of the compass with her uncle BastienKnight Bastien. BastienKnight Bastien in turn shares all of this knowledge with Augustus including the Compass, which he uses to create a map that he gives to Augustus to use to travel around the world finding more deposits, as well as the characteristics of Cold Steel ink, but makes him promise to keep this all a secret given the power of this substance. Augustus due to his personal ambitions and fears, betrays that trust and uses the knowledge Bastien shared with him in order to write and implement the tenants of TheBrotherhood The Brotherhood. Angered by this betrayal Bastien divides up his RunicCodeBook Runic Code Book because of the power it has as a single volume, giving one half to his friend OmranMohammed Omran and then takes his family off of Crete. He is unaware that his wife, Anila had been killed earlier and was being impersonated by TheLeftHand The Left Hand in order to acquire the RunicCodeBook book. Once off of the island, TheLeftHand The Left Hand steals the book, but upon discovering that it is only one half of the entire book, returns for the other half. BastienKnight Bastien refuses to tell where the other half is, and TheLeftHand kills him. His son, JaidenKnight Jaiden and niece AylinKazi Aylin Kazi are able to escape and go into hiding and gradually make their way to the Kazi stronghold, carrying with them the knowledge of BastienKnight Bastien as well as the pen and compass.
- 1300 BCE - Is rescued from his village along with his sister GwenKnight Gwen Knight by Augustus and travels to Crete where he meets OmranMohammed Omran Mohammed and learn Greek from him
- 1292 BCE - With the arrival of RafikKazi who has a Cold Steel amulet, Bastien investigates how to lock powers into ColdSteet Cold Steel by using runes
- 3 February 1291 - His sister GwenKnight Gwen Knight marries RafikKazi and as a gift, Rafik gives Bastien an amulet made of Cold Steel. This gift inspires Augustus to travel the earth trying to locate more and provide as a source of materials for Bastiens studies.
- 1283 BCE - His nephew, HaydenKazi and neice AylinKazi arrive with their bodyguard, Anila, having been sent by their father, RafikKazi and mother GwenKnight to study from their uncle in Crete. Rafik has given Hayden a Cold Steel pen and compass. Anila and Bastien fall in love and are soon married.
- 1282 BCE - Bastien notices Hayden using a Cold Steel pen in his studies as well as the effects the Cold Steel pen on the documents.
