Full Backstory:
Myung Ki Nahn (1974-), also known as Mickey, is a Section 11 Agent. Born in Los Angeles, California, he is the third child of Korean immigrants who came to the United States in 1969 and struggled to establish their own restaurant, Nahn Cooks. Mickey was always torn between his traditional Korean family home and attempting to become more Americanized. As a young boy he started to be called Mickey by fellow classmates and teachers at his public school and the name has stuck ever since. While a teenager he strove to take on the latest fad and be up to date on American music, culture and clothing and made many friends but ensured that they were kept separate from his home life. Although he strove to keep his immigrant and sometimes seemingly backward heritage from his American friends, he maintained a respect for his parents for the struggles that they had endured in coming to American and providing him with an opportunity to live in such a society. This respect lead him to study hard at school and excel in his grades all the while under a persona of a slacker to his friends. While a senior at his public highschool, Mickey had promised his father to help out at the family restaurant on April 29, 1992. During the aftermath of the ensuing riots sparked by the acquital of four police officers in the Rodney King case, rioters broke the windows of the restaurant, and attempted to loot. Angered by these individuals, Mickeys’ father and older brother, Dae-Jung or DJ, try to scare and fight them off while his older sister Cho Hee called for the police. Mickey joined his father and DJ in the fight but came to blows with a gang leader who was both larger, faster and tougher than himself, and had already knocked out his older brother. Mickey did his best to stand up to the man and fought with him for a time. Gradually the individual began to overcome Mickey and his father and sister looked on as it looked like Mickey was about to be killed. A wave passed over the area, knocking out the limited power and lights, bringing everything into darkness. Two shots are fired and by the time the lights had returned, Mickey found himself being jolted awake by a Marcella Navan, Field Agent 139 who had been brought in from local offices to help clean up after the riots. The leader of the gang that had attacked the restaurant is lying on the floor nearby, breathing shallowly, apparently hit with rubber bullets. Impressed by Mickeys stamina and ability to fight back against obviously disproportionate odds, willingness to defend the weak and aware of the limited resources in LA at the time, she assists the family with the police who eventually make their way there and ensure that the individual who had attacked them is taken into custody. She talks with Mickey afterwards, over a cup of coffee and finding that he lacks the money to follow through with the various colleges that have accepted him and his aspirations to be a doctor, leaves Nahn Cooks and passes his name up to her superiors. After a few weeks she is given the green light to initiate Mickey into the Agency and offers him a free ride through college, in exchange for working with their Agency. At first he is uncertain but the more he is indoctrinated into the Agency the more he realizes the good that he could do, how his intellect would be admired and the benefits it could bring his family, as well as how unique it is to be aware of the metahuman world.
